Cardiogen (Ala-Glu-Asp-Arg) is a synthetic tetrapeptide bioregulator targeting cardiac myocyte gene expression. The heart is uniquely vulnerable to age-related functional decline because adult cardiomyocytes have extremely limited regenerative capacity (annual turnover ~1% at age 25, declining to 0.45% by age 75). Cardiogen addresses cardiac aging by optimizing gene expression in existing cardiomyocytes rather than attempting to replace them, targeting contractile protein maintenance, mitochondrial function, calcium handling, and anti-fibrotic pathways.
